Poco Pride Residential Garden Awards 2. Thoughts: These residents who work so hard to make their home garden add to the livability of our community deserve a thank you. Erin and I love gardening and we feel proud of our garden and hope that others enjoy our garden, I am sure this is the same feeling and reasoning many of our Poco Pride Residential Garden Award recipients work so hard. Thank you for all you hard work and dedicated to making our community a beautiful. PROCLAMATION5. Terry Fox Week, September 1. Also in attendance: Mr. Dave Teixeira. Thoughts: I am very excited about this year Terry Fox Run, Dave and his team has been working hard to put on a great day. We look forward to it. Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. Hastings Street - First Two. Thoughts: Over the past year the residents of Lazy River Mobile Home Park and the land owner Mosaic Homes are working together to ensure all residents have been appropriately compensated for their mobile homes. At this point a majority of residents have negotiated a settlement; there are still some residents who are in negotiated with the Mosaic Homes. This is a negotiated between two private parties and I am confident that both parties will work together towards an agreeable solution. Regarding the proposed new zoning, I think that we should be seeking higher density. The OCP and Zoning changes are to permit 6. I think we have an opportunity to allow some condo units. The property is a large enough to accommodate a higher density. Further, the property is located with in a 5 minute walk to shopping, transit and major amenities. The last point is condos are more affordable form of housing. Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. Hastings Street - First Two. See item 6. 8. Building and Plumbing Amendment Bylaw No. First Three. See Also: Report from Director of Development Services. Thoughts: I completely agree with this Bylaw amendment, for any home owner to go through a leaky condo is devastating and there are many reports to show that the effects on a home owner are more that financial many times they affect personal relationships. I don’t think that it is necessary for the city to add extra burden on our residents. Controlled Substance Amendment Bylaw No. First Three. No Comment. Manager, Communications and Administrative Services. Thoughts: I am excited about the Shaughnessy Park project. I think staff has done a wonderful job to engage the community and incorporating all stakeholders’ ideas. I am please with the concept that is being presented. I think the biggest challenge Council will face is funding the project, with the cost of the Coast Meridian Overpass and other capital projects in the city we need to look for other opportunities to fund projects. As I have stated in the past I think we have an opportunities to sell 2 acres of the 1. In my opinion the ideal location to sell property would be at the end closest to Prairie or at the North East end, next to the townhouses. I believe we could raise $2m as part of a lands sale. This money could cover all the cost associated with the re- location of the Public Works Yard storage facility and the park development. By re- located the Public Works Yard which is 1. This is a win- win proposal. I believe we have an opportunity here to develop a new park asset for our community at no capital costs to our residents. It is these opportunities we need to take advantage of. If we do not look for other sources of funding for this project I am concerned that we will not be able to complete this project for many years. Lowering Flags to Half- Mast at Civic Buildings. Thoughts: I think is a good idea that we formalize the process to ensure clarity. New Business. Resolution to Close. Corporate Officer, re: Closing of Council Meeting. Open Question Period.
